Louis Benjamin works as an independent educational consultant with a special interest in the cognitive development and assessment of pre-primary to primary school children. He is the author of the Basic Concepts Programme, which has been implemented across South Africa as well as in other countries. The programme was primarily developed to address learning backlogs of children from severely disadvantaged communities. The Bertha Centre has recognized the Basic Concepts Programme as one of the 10 most innovative early childhood education programmes in South Africa. Louis is the co-founder and a board member of Thinking Schools South Africa (TSSA) and has served as the Vice President for Africa of the International Association for Cognitive Education and Psychology (IACEP).
